At Hanshaw Middle School, students aren’t just learning—they’re growing into confident, capable young people ready to take on the future. As part of Modesto City Schools’ “Where You Belong” video series, Hanshaw is the latest school to be featured for its outstanding academic opportunities, welcoming environment, and strong sense of community.
From the moment you walk through the doors, it’s clear Hanshaw is a place where students feel safe, supported, and inspired. Teachers build meaningful relationships with students and provide personalized learning that meets students where they are. Whether it’s dual language instruction, honors classes, or hands-on experiences in newly upgraded science labs, Hanshaw students are encouraged to explore, collaborate, and succeed.
Beyond the classroom, students can join one of eight athletic teams or participate in a growing e-sports program. Spirit days and Titan-themed activities bring fun, pride, and connection to campus life. The school has also seen record reclassification rates for English learners, a sign of both academic growth and strong student support systems.
Principal Debbie Butler says the school’s transformation over the last several years is rooted in one thing: relationships. “We’ve worked hard to make this school feel like a community,” she shared. “This is a place that grows with you.”
Hanshaw Middle School isn’t just preparing students for high school—it’s launching them toward a future full of possibilities.
This is Hanshaw. It’s where YOU belong.
