Regular Attendance is the key factor to your
success!
Welcome! The Attendance Staff is here to
assist students and parents with any
questions and concerns that will ensure the
success of your student’s attendance here at
Beyer High School.
A
phone call or note from the parent/guardian
is required to excuse absences that are
verified in accordance with the Education
Code and Board Policy (C.A.C. Title 5, Sec.
420). The Attendance office can be reached
at (209) 576-4316. Excused absences allow
the student to make up work that occurred
during the absence (2 school days for each
day missed). Responsibility for requesting
missed work lies with the student.
Should the attendance office receive the
phone call prior to 1:30 p.m. on the same
day that the student is absent, he/she
will not be required to come to the
attendance office for a re-admit to class.
The teachers will receive a computer
printout each morning indicating the
absences from the prior day.
If a phone call is not received on the day
of the absence, the student will be required
to come to the attendance office upon their
return for a re-admit slip. If a student
brings a note to clear the absence, these
notes must be in pen, include
the full name of the
student, state the date(s) and reason
for absence, and have a parent/guardian
signature.
LEAVING CAMPUS EARLY
If a student needs to leave campus for a
medical or court appointment, we ask that
the parent/guardian send a note or come into
the Attendance Office the morning of the
appointment and sign their student out.
Students will need to come to the attendance
office before the time they need to
leave and pick up an off-campus
pass. Messages will not be delivered
to students during class hours.
We would also like to remind students and
parents that students who leave campus for
any reason before the end of their school
day (including 8th period classes
and after school sports) without checking
out with the attendance office are
considered
truant.

to clear the absence.

NEW ATTENDANCE POLICY
Beyer High School and Modesto City Schools,
have adopted a strict attendance policy
regarding unexcused absences. An unexcused
absence is issued after the student misses
30 minutes of class time without
authorization, and may result in a step of
truancy. Excused absences are those due to
illness, medical, dental or optometric
appointments, and funeral services for a
member of the student’s immediate family as
approved by the student’s parent or legal
guardian, or for personal reasons with prior
administrative approval as noted in the
conduct code. Absences due to transportation
or traffic issues, power outages, and
oversleeping are not excused. Should your
student have excessive unexcused absences to
their first class of the day, a truancy step
may be issued for the accumulation of 6
unexcused absences.
Students who are absent from
school without approval of the school shall
be considered truant/unexcused and shall NOT
be allowed to make-up assignments or tests
which were assigned during the
truancy/unexcused absence. Students who
leave the campus or the classroom without
proper school authorization will be
considered truant.
Note: If the student has an
absence verified at the attendance office at
a later time, he/she is not allowed make-up
privileges unless he/she presents the
teacher a verified re-admit slip within ONE
day after the student returns to school.
Further, absences will be
considered unexcused and may affect
extra-curricular eligibility if not cleared
within SEVEN school days after the student
returns to school
The preceding are only a few attendance
situations. For more detailed information,
please refer to the Student Conduct Code.

If a student misses 10 days of school, a
District letter is automatically generated
and sent home.
If a student misses 15 days during the
school year without doctor authorization,
he/she will be placed on attendance
supervision. Once a student has been
placed on attendance supervision every
absence thereafter must be
cleared with a doctor’s authorization.
Truancy steps will accumulate after a
student has 5 absences without a doctor’s
authorization after being placed on
attendance supervision.
If a student has a
chronic
illness, please submit a medical
authorization to both the attendance office
and the nurse’s office.

STUDENT WITHDRAWAL
Student Withdrawal forms can
be obtained from Vanessa Rogers in the
attendance office. A parent/guardian
signature is required for voluntary
withdrawals. We require 24 hours notice of
withdrawal. The student is required to
route his/her withdrawal form to each
teacher for a grade to date of leaving. All
textbooks and library books must be returned
before
transcripts will be issued.
SHORT-TERM INDEPENDENT STUDY
Short Term Independent Study is available to
those students unable to attend school from
5 to 20 days due to extenuating family
circumstances. It is imperative that you
provide at least 4 days prior written notice
to allow for processing.
Independent
Study contracts are obtained and returned to
the Supervision office located in V101.
SHORT-TERM HOME AND HOSPITAL
Short Term Home and Hospital is designed for
the student who will be out of class from 5
to 20 days due to illness and are motivated
to keep up with their classes while they are
absent. A doctor’s note must accompany the
referral stating how long the student will
need to be on Home and Hospital
instruction. Work is assigned and corrected
by the classroom teacher, however, a
designated Home and Hospital teacher is
assigned as a liaison to assist the student
in completing assignments. Students will
receive up to five hours of instruction time
per week.
